I'm contemplating purchasing another MK7 (an R this time) before they are gone. I'm not totally put off by touch screens but I don't want "only" a giant screen in front of me. I like buttons and physical controls.Already made my decision bought out my 2DR MK7 GTI and it will be my last new GTI.
I'm not into a touchscreen driven interior, CarPlay and MIB2 is distracting enough, I really don't want to have to go through various screens just to change the temperature.
Also with the supposed introduction of Alexa as part of the speech recognition and integration with Car-Net I'm out. I guess I'm too old for this crap.
Get off my lawn.
Oh and the exterior is pretty drab and it has too many doors for my tastes.
I'm absolutely with you on the door count, I just can't see myself ever owning a 4dr GTI or R. I will be keeping my mk7 2dr GTI until it needs replaced, and then I'll move on from VW after 40yrs of owning them. I usually have an SUV and a fun, weekend car, but VW is failing me on both counts...there's just nothing in the lineup that excites me anymore.Already made my decision bought out my 2DR MK7 GTI and it will be my last new GTI.

The Mk7 and Mk7.5 are fine looking cars, perhaps the worst part is the Mk7 halogen headlamps being rather cheap looking and also looking like they were designed in 1999, but that's easily rectified via the aftermarket.I think it looks great.
People are forgetting that this is the MK8 Golf.
As an example this is what the MK7 Golf looks like...
I see it the other way.I'm absolutely with you on the door count, I just can't see myself ever owning a 4dr GTI or R. And I see it as why would I ever buy any of those cars. I hate all three of those cars.I see it the other way.
Why would it want to own a 2 Door GTI when I could get a 2 Door Mustang GT, Camaro SS or used 2 Series BMW?
Interesting, as I find my MK7.5 GTI interior nicely done with a combo of touch (radio stuff) and tactile controls (HVAC). Even the Android Auto (and assuming CarPlay) works pretty well as touch for the minimal amounts of time I need to do anything. Absolutely destroys something like an Acura with the dual screen setup and touch nightmare...yikes. Just turning on seat warmers and adjusting will cause a 5 car pile up. Totally with you on the Alexa, Car-Net and other talk-tech crap.Already made my decision bought out my 2DR MK7 GTI and it will be my last new GTI.

A Camaro? Really?I see it the other way.

Surprised they'd reveal it so soon with the mk7 still selling like hot cakes.
(Spellcheck prefers hoecakes to hot cakes...)
XL1 was so cool because it was a diesel hybrid. It was also the first VW with LED headlights (everyone thinks it was the e-golf), and did not need a passenger airbag since the seats were staggered and the regulations were based on distance from dash. Also the first car with digital side-view mirrors which is cool.Actually a little searching and I found the car. Can't find the article but VW says it will take styling cues for the next golf (mk8) based off this.
The VW XL1 concept.
It was on the front page of vortex about a year ago.
I almost pulled the trigger on a new SE to replace my 2015 SE two door with 80k on it. Nice tech, DCC and the PP mine doesn’t have for a very reasonable sum of money with a great warranty. I am 6’4” tall and the B pillar in my face on the four door is a deal breaker. Oh! And the armrest on the door only goes halfway up my forearm. I don’t think the MK8 will be coming in a two door so this is probably my last GTI. Bummer because I love the car. If I could get a two door ‘R’ I would do it right now. I need to take super good care of mine. And I see it as why would I ever buy any of those cars. I hate all three of those cars.
Everyone has their likes. You like those. I like 2 door hatchbacks.
I'm only 5'8" and I had a 4dr MK7 GTI as a loaner while they were getting my 2dr from another dealership and hated the b pillar placement on the 4dr. That really sealed the deal for me on never getting a 4dr GTI ever. I love my 2dr and will never give it up.I am 6’4” tall and the B pillar in my face on the four door is a deal breaker.
