Throttle position sensor

what does a throttle position sensor do when it goes bad ??? Im looking to buy a new one , does anybody know what a new one would cost from the dealership ?

http://www.vwparts.com/index.cfm Try here i think they are around 80 bucks. And im not sure but i think you need a vag-com tool to reset it.
