Ticking Noise. Camshaft area.

597 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  doctordon
I just started my car after 4 months. Its been off the road for winter and there is a ticking noise coming from the camshaft area. Its not loud but then again, its hard to hear over the borla. I got 140,000/around 85,000mi on my 94. The camshaft is a neuspeed and was swapped in when the car was new. Any need for concern? Do any of you guys hear the same noise from your 2.0's. Lifters?/Valve springs?
Any info appreciated, thanks
Rick.

Mine ticks at startup. After a minute or so it goes away. Once oil gets to it, it shuts up. What size cam are you running? Did you upgrade your valve springs? You may not have needed to, I think OBD1 cars already have tougher springs. (correct me if I'm wrong PLEASE) I'd go with an oil change and see if that helps. You could also take the head off and have a valve job done. That would stop the ticking and ensure that you're not looking at major work down the road. Just think, if you take the head off, you could get it ported and polished
There's an excuse if I've ever heard one. "Honey, the cam is making some noise. I don't wanna cause any damage, so I'm gonna get it fixed right away." Hope this helps.

Thanx for the info. Already got the p&p done tho. Its a 268 Neuspeed with the factory springs. I'll change the oil today and see if it helps.

i think i remember hearing something about if there is a clicking around there, then its the lifters, is it continuous? like click click click click etc? or is it like click...pause.....click click....pause....click click pause....etc? i really don't know if that makes any difference, just wondering

its just your lifters...go Mobile 1 or full synthetic

Run a qt. of ATF in the oil for awhile or try some of this stuff called "Mac's valve tune" purchased from NAPA.
