Doin timing belt/oil seals etc. and having a betch of a time gettin the crank shaft stretch bolt turned that last 1/4 turn!!! Any neat tricks to hold crankshaft tight so you can really bear down? I've got stout breaker bar and long jack handle, but when I go to turn, too much slack in drive line to really cinch it down. Could drop the oil pan and put a block of wood next to a crank throw to lock it but hope to avoid that! Any good work arounds would be appreciated! Thanks! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Tightening Crank shaft pulley Nut (bajan01)

trick = put it on a lift, have about three transmissions in the trunk if its a gutted race car, and have your most fearless buddy really lay into the brake pedal with both feet (in gear also), tighten the bolt. p.s we did this with a really good clutch, your results may vary

Re: Tightening Crank shaft pulley Nut (Project20v)

Could not get bolt more than about 1/16 turn beyond the 60 ft-lb initial torque point just relying on driveline to hold engine. With the springs in the clutch, and tire give just too loose. Went down to New Dimensions and they loaned me there "Gorrilla Tool" just an old Rabbit AC crank pulley (the one that looks like it was carved out of an old German Panzer hub) welded to a two foot long steel bar. You just bolt pulley to crank gear let bar hit front suspenson arm and lay into that breaker bar (I used my floor jack handle on the breaker bar for more leverage). Shoulders a little sore this morn, but that damn bolt has been duly stretched. Put in new bolt like Bentley says since I saw post here about broken crank bolt and it sounded ugly! Thanks for the responses! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
