I'm replacing the timing belt on my 2001 A4 1.8t. The original engine dropped 2 valves so the AWM engine has been replaced with an AMB block with AEB head. According to the directions included with the timing belt kit (from blauparts) and also according to autodata, there is to be a 6-10mm gap between the top of the tensioner piston and the bottom of the tensioner pullley bracket. If that is correct, (which doesn't make sense) The piston on the tensioner does not make contact with the pulley, therefore the hydraulic tensioner is doing nothing. I believe this is simply a mistake, and there is supposed to be 6-10mm of the shaft expposed. Can anyone confirm this?
