I've got some 16x7.5s for the front and 16x9s coming to me soon, and I want to know what kind of rubber I should go with. 205 for the fronts and 215 for the rear is what I was going to go with, but would 205 on each corner be fine? How would that look?

Re: Tire Sizing (bialyorzel)

If you want the exact rolling diameter size as stock go with 205\45-16 in the front and 225\40-16 in the rear. If you want a good tire for the money the Kuhmo ecsta 712 is made in both these sizes.

quote:

do 205/40 front and 215/40 rear and youll be good.. 215 over a 9 is nicely streched
or you can run like a 195/45 and 215/40

I actually have a 16X7.5" rim and I run 205. It stretches over them wheels really nice.
As for the rear I would say do your best to match the "LOOK" of the front because if they didn't match it would appear pretty crappy regarless of the overwidth width of the tire.

Curiosity here...for a fwd car wouldn't you want wider tires up front? Granted, it would look funny, but I would think the wider tires in back would really lighten up the rear and exacerbate tail slides. Any auto-crossers out there who know?

My question still stands, what is the effect of not rotating your tires? With wider rears this will be impossible so I'm wondering if there are any negative side effects of it.

I think you are correct. But I would guess that most of the people that are doing this style of wheel set up are not terribly concerned with all out performance. I know I for one would rather have the great looking set up regardless of any minor performance losses it might cause. I really only use my car to commute with occation "fun" drives, but I never race her. As long as it won't cause major or dangerous differences, I'm OK with it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Tire Sizing (EchoOfGecko)

Actually Jetaflite, not true. We just don't get those 'rare' sizes in NA.. for instance, the Dunlop SP9000 comes in 195/40-16 but not here in the Americas. Also note Marc himself has 215/40-15 rear tires.. try to find those around here! No way in hell!

Anyways, 205/40 front and 215/40 rear is the only manly way to do it. It's not gonna be too stretched, it's a very common deal actually

You could still rotate rear tires with each other, and fronts whith each other. But if you had directional tires, it would mean getting them re-mounted and balanced every time. Not rotating them could cause uneven wear, especialy with an extremely lowered car.
