Been a Vr6 guy for a long time and finally decided to pick a 92 GTI 16v last week that won't start. (belonged to best friend, good known engine just no crank/no start issue). Going by the symptoms, from what I can gather, the most logical problem would be the hall effect sensor. Just wanted to get some more ideas. I've been brainstorming all week and reading all I can on Digi2 systems (yeah, digi 2 swap). Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Check to see if any grounds are loose, corroded or disconnected, just a place to start.....

Do you have the Bentley for the car? Have you tested the hall sender using a multi meter or LED test light?

They are known to go bad but its always better to test them rather than replace parts to see if it solves your problem. Is the fuel pump priming when you turn the key on? It should turn on for a couple of seconds. If the fuel pump relay is bad or the fuse is blown, the injectors won't get power.

You don't have spark or working injectors?
