When Ferdinand Porsche settled on the idea of making a rear-engine people's car, he was doubtless convinced that this was the best layout because of the mechanical efficiencies, the high grip, and the packaging advantages. It’s unlikely that he considered falling trees, though.

After a recent storm in Brazil, a microbus proved it's tree-proof all the same. The bus was nearly cut in half and to any observer would have looked completely destroyed, but thanks to the layout, this bus still drives.

Now, all things considered, a front-engine layout might have been even better in this scenario—we’ve all seen Clarkson drive a half-a-Panda --but even there the fuel lines might have been an issue.

Whatever the case, I think we can all agree that this VW should be preserved in its current state, painted black, and called the Black Knight.
