Re: Title reads "Reconstructed". Do I have to go through inspection? (feeling_sinister)
I just read a big article in Consumer Reports about salvaged and reconstructed Autos. The gist of what I can remember is that your car has already been salvaged and rebuilt. The denotation "Reconstructed" means the car was once a total loss wreck where the cost to repair the car exceeded 75% of it value. It has since been reconstructed and is up to par to be driveable. No inspection should be needed, but since I have never owned a reconstructed car, I cannot give you a 100% on that.
You will probably has a lot of problems with the car if it was poorly reconstructed. If you bought it really, really cheap, then watch out! Sometimes, these total losses are reconstructed for cheap using sub-standard practices. But there are those places that really know how to rebuild a wreck well. Hopefully, they rebuilt your GTI.
