To all those with a kamei grill

550 Views 12 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Lyzic
I just installed mine, and something looks wrong to me. I have about 3/4" of a gap above the mesh part of the grill and the hood. It would seem to me that there could be another part on the top that I am missing.

As you can see from this picture, there is a gap, mine looks somewhat like this.

In this picture, there is no discernable gap.
Is there an additional piece on top of the mesh part that I don't have and most do ? Or is it the same with all the grills ?
Any help is welcome

by that first picture, it almost looks like the mesh is bent down at the middle. i never noticed mine being like that but it couldve been. i just dont think it was. check to make sure yours isnt bent at all.
Re: To all those with a kamei grill (Lyzic)

holy cow is that part bendable? I'd call whoever you bought from and ask if they might send you a better one. Shipping damage? Looks like you can straight'n out though. That doesnt look right. Are you still debating on painting it silver?

There still looks like a gap in the second picture.
Re: To all those with a kamei grill (Lyzic)

There's no additional piece involved. Did you buy your grill used? It looks like the top right part is bent downward. The top of the grille should be horizontal (flat) with no downward curve to line up with the hood.

I bought my grill from the classifieds, so I can't send it back and ask for a replacement.
Those aren't my cars, I don't have a digicam. They are just the closest examples I could find in short order.
Maybe my mesh part is kind of bent down. That may explain a lot.

The 2nd one on that sweet black GTI looks like an ABT.

That's they way they are. Mine is the same way and I have seen several others like it.

That's exactly what it does have, an ABT badge on a kamei grill.
I went and looked at my grill again. Didn't get that good of a look considering it is dark out and I was using a flashlight. But it does seem to be slightly bent in the middle.
The bottom of the grill is really snug against the bumper. Perhaps that is where most of my problem lies. I think I'll just have to jack it up a little.
And severence, email sent
I can't believe how nice VW people are
