actually, i did this before. it creates a "spotlight" effect where it doesnt spread the light around evenly...its mostly just straight down from the led's. does look better with the film but its brighter without =\
Re: to all with gaugelights (Severance)

Must use the film or the spotlight look will be there for sure........been there, tried that and was mad once i put it together hoping for a nicer look, but mine looks as good as the pics on the page after 45min of angling and some custom work. I love driving at night now

I used tin foil and it brighted things up a whole lot. You just gotta cut the right size and align it right. Then everythings all good!!!!

I built my own kit since i had the parts laying around (yeah, I have more electronics than 50 RadioShacks) but I used a piece of Drafting mylar to disperse the light, my gauges are so bright, I usually live them dimmed at least 20%, At full brightness it looks like I jammed 2 Neon Tubes in my Dash Somewhere. I also Used 2500MCD LEDS where I think the gaugelight kits use 1600mcd or something, but if he used those, the kits would probably cost about twice as much.
I would try drafting mylar if I were Y'all.
Also, alternatively, you could try putting a layer (1mm thick or so) of clear epoxy or similar on the tips of the LEDS then scuffing it lightly to disperse the light, although this is a permanent modification, and although it worked in another test of mine, I like the mylar better. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
If anyone wants to see mine in the area, let me know. They are equaly Bright in the Daytime (without direct sunlight). BTW, I have White Face Guages.
