Tornado Red & Paint Protection

I'm taking delivery of a Tornado Red '02 Jetta next week and I need some help with protecting the paint's finish.
I turned down the dealer's paint protection package because it was expensive ($400CDN) and I couldn't get enough info on the details of what it was.
A couple people have recommended that I go with the Ziebart PROTECT-A-SHINE ($200CDN) which is a long term treatment.
I want to protect the shine. I regularly wash and wax, and strip the wax once a year after winter but I remember my Tornado Red Corrado started looking a little dull after the third year. Do non metalic colours not have a clearcoat layer on top?
I know the Corrado didn't have clearcoat so I'm not expecting the Jetta to have one either. My other cars with clearcoat have been easy to maintain without extra protection. Thanks for any advice you may give.

Re: Tornado Red & Paint Protection (zaphodtheprez)

I have a tornado red jetta for almost 3 years now and still shines. Well I don't live in the snow area and that car has never seen snow in her live. I just constantly waxed it every 4 months and it works. And I don't think my jetta has a paint protection either

It had not been waxed for a couple of months when that picture was shot.
Hope you get the idea

Re: Tornado Red & Paint Protection (redGLS)

I have owned my 1998 Tornado Red Golf since day one...i used Meguiars wax from day one until last spring when I started using Klasse. I bought my car in Upstate NY and drove for the first 3 years in the car in the winters up there- and I didn't have the Ziebart finish put on my car, and it still looks great.
IMHO buy the Klasse AIO and SC and you will be very happy. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Tornado Red & Paint Protection (lab_rat)

I paid for the protection, and the first time a bird crapped on my roof it proved to be pointless. Klasse is much cheaper and will provide much more protection. A bird crapped on my driver's side mirror the day after I Klassed, and I forgot to clean it off because I was running late for work. That night I saw it again and removed it with a rag after wetting it with some Wipe and Shine and letting it soften up, and there was no indention like the one I have on the roof, which had the paint protectant and a coat of wax on it. I will never use another Carnuba wax as the sole protectant of my car again unless it's over a layer of Klasse.

Re: Tornado Red & Paint Protection (lab_rat)

your paint should be clearcoated and you will not have the fading problem if you keep it waxed or sealed(like on the corrado). a premium sealant does offer several serious advantages to a wax. i would skip the aftermarket stuff (ziebart etc)and apply it yourself. for 200.00 you could by a whole garage full of top-of-the line sealants and car care products that will last a long time http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
