Traction Control on what year VR's?

If I recall, traction control was offered on some VR6 cars. If this is true, what years and what cars.
TIA
Andrew

Re: Traction Control? (GM2VW)

I think it's on VR's only, both GTI and GLX. I asked about this awhile back and apparently it's controlled by the ECU so no way to do a conversion...unless you swap in the engine and tranny with it!

Re: Traction Control? (Red Baron Golf)

Guys, forget-about-it !!
I have it on my 95 Jetta GLX and its a complete waste of money. In the rain its totally ineffective, too much gas and the VR breaks traction ,track control has never helped me once.
It only seems to do ANYTHING in the snow, helping a little with starting off the line. You can make your traction control for free.... just don't mash the pedal. It was more of a gadget and marketing ploy to say "VW now comes with trac control like MB"
Also , it only works up to 40km/hr which also reduces its effectiveness in the snow. I'd rate it a 2-10 for effectiveness. Theoretically it works, realistically its just about useless.

Re: Traction Control? (Lexi)

All the traction control does is utilize the ABS system to detect which wheels are slipping, then applies the brakes to that wheel.
Get a Quaife or Peloquin differential, it'll make a far greater improvement.

Re: Traction Control? (Lexi)

In short, it's more of a ABS-controlled limited slip differential than anything. It only activates if there is a significant speed difference between the front tires. Break both loose at the same time and the traction control doesn't care and you can do a long smoky burnout if that's your thing. Way back when on the old GTI VR6 list, there were theories of it causing TFS (Transmission Fragmentation Syndrome) because if you regularly light one tire up the ABS starts pounding away on the brake for that side, ultimately transfering the shock to the differential, working the rivets on the ring gear loose and leading to nasty results. It's just a theory, however.
Like Lexi said, if you want traction control, use your head and work the gas pedal to fit the situation.

It has come on in my '95 GLX only on pure ics...and it is technically called "Electronic Differential Lock" because it uses the ABS to brake the spinning wheel and force power to the other like they ^^^^ siad...alll it really does is make you smell brakes and remind you, in fact, that you have no traction and are on ice.....

Re: Traction Control? (EuroStyle)

Someone wrote a "How-to" wire a switch to enable/disable EDL, but WindowsXP fuc'd my computer up and I lost the link. Hopefully someone will chime in with the link. I've heard that EDL constributes to Tranny failure as well...just my .02cents worth. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
