I am no tech guru, I don't even have a tool box, so i really need your help.
I have a 92 Jetta 8v (once was an automatic - had it converted to 5sp when the auto went)
Question! What tranny do i have? when they finished the swap they never told me what tranny I now have. It seems to be a very close ratio tranny.
what are some of the tranny codes for 8v tranny's?
Reason for the info is cuz i decided to have the motor swaped out for a 2.0 crossflow, and was informed that the o2o was a much better tranny to go with. The guy doing the swap (who has not seen the car yet) wants to know what i have in there now. I just real fast under the car at the tranny but i don't even know where to look to find the code.

You need to look for a flat machined spot on the bottom of tranny case.It will have many letters,with 3 letters in a row(or 2) like: 9A,AWY,2K,4K,ASF,etc.LMK what you find.Ken R.

Thanks for the help guys, after whipping away some of the grut I think i was able to make it out to be an AGB tranny

AGB means that you have a tranny from a 16v Golf GTI.It's a close ratio box with a R&P of 3.67:1.Your other ratios are:1st 3.45:1
2nd 2.12:1
3rd 1.44:1
4th 1.13:1
5th 0.91:1
At 3500 RPM you should be doing 70 mph even if your speedometer tells you otherwise.
