Re: TT dual forge SMIC (2001Bora)

It's just a bolt up affair. the Forge SMIC's are just a bit larger than stock but are all metal, not plastic end tanks like stock, and flow much better and offer better efficiency. For the best IC efficiency you need to think about two things. First, try to minimize the IC systems length. By minimizing the distance the charge air has to travel to get to the intake manifold, you decrease the PSI drop - this is the dual setups strength over FMIC solutions. Secondly, you need to get the most air through that IC. It's a heat exchanger and it's efficiency has much to do with how much surface area is in contact with the moving air - and this is where the FMIC solutions shine. Another good idea would be to tap in the TT vent mods on both sides if you do the dual IC mod - this would help by getting ready of heated air right behind the SMIC's.

Re: TT dual forge SMIC (MDMKIVGTI)

I think the main problem with this setup would be cost. At $510 a pop plus piping, this is not a cheap upgrade. A FMIC would probably be a better overall intercooler upgrade.

Re: TT dual forge SMIC (Maxx)

I was thinking of this myself.
Instead of two Forge SMIC... I would just need one, the piping and rest.
Don't know if ecs will just sell the package w/o smic....
Is so, the cost of this mod would be cheaper comparing to 2 forge one.
Cheers, Young

Re: TT dual forge SMIC (Forge Motorsport)

Hi Forge gusy - when are you guys going to be coming out with the FMIC? And by your response of "we're working on it" I take it that your engineers believe the FMIC to be the better solution in lieu of twin SMIC's??

ALRIGHT!!! I can't wait!!! What's the pricing going to be appx?

What kind of design will it have?.... Similar to ATP's (a lot of piping) or more like APR's new one??

Give us something to dream about!!

Funny you should mention that. According to APR in a email exchange over the last couple days, it's still under development and there is no firm date for release. They are working at making sure it fits WITHOUT any modification to the cars whatsoever.
I've seen several Forge FMIC's on TT's and they are truely a wonderfully designed piece.

Excellent. If APR is developing the product, it will be a quality piece. Now, regarding the Stage III. Stage III is fine and all but I wish they would concentrate on giving me what I really want. I mean, seriously, who doesn't need more power? Come on. Only 300hp at the crank? I need more - come on APR, gimme 500!!!

By my calculations, the FMIC is running between 88 and 93% efficiency. Heat is no longer the issue. As Joe said, the forge piece is quite a work of art. Hit my link for more info on my IC cooling and monitoring experiments as well as performance and heat VAG runs on this FMIC VS single IC on a stage 3 TT.....
