Just curious if anyone is running with the Freedom Designs Turbo Boost Control System? Is so, how is it working for you and is it worth the money($230). I'm thinking about this over a chip for service reasons.
Thanks

Re: Turbo boost control system... (badbug)

Just to make your decision more complicated.... I've got an Upsolute chip ($325 currently), and I've had my car in 3 times for service since I've been chipped (completely unrelated to the chip though). Once was for a MAF problem, another time for an airbag light, and a third for a normal service. They've gone for test drives and hooked up their little diagnostic thinger, and have never said anything to me about being chipped. Could just be my dealer, but I haven't had any problems.

the freedom designs one is just a split second unit renamed and sold for $20 less. do a search on bcs, boost controller, or split second, and you will have tons of info, as well as many chippers trying to talk you out of it. it's amusing, really...
good luck!!

Eh....not really trying to talk him out of it, just providing other options, since he seemed to be mostly worried about the dealership thing.
I just think a chip is a little safer since it takes fueling and other stuff into account....

Re: Turbo boost control system... (badbug)

Thanks guys for the info. I had a Neuspeed chip and P-Flow in my old MkIII Jetta and I had some problems with O2 sensors and the dealer told me that they went bad because there were problems on the computer with the mafs because the P-Flow and chip were the cause of the problem. They also told me that they were getting error codes from the computer that didn't exist. I guess I'm just skeptical since I had problems with chips before. If I do get chipped it's going to be APR for sure. I was just looking for a way to prevent problems with my dealership...again.

no, i wasn't talking about you, brandon. see, there are many chipped people out there, though, that just rip into the bcs, and it kinda irritates me. there have been topics on the bcs alone where someone is asking about installing it, and a bunch of chipped people will just hop in and say that it sucks and to get a chip. i noticed you had a little more class than that, so i didn't get on ya about it

all i want people to realize is that it is a valid option in the upgrade market that is actually less-prone to fatal problems. i have nothing against chipped cars, it's just not for me.
sorry about the rant

<getting off soapbox>
oh, and the fuel thing is a myth. the stock fuel system can supply enough gas to handle 1bar of pressure, hence the 14.5 psi limit on the controllers. just fyi

Hey, no problem. No offense taken.

About the fueling thing....I'm sure the stock system can handle the extra boost, but I was under the impression that a chip had its fuel curve tuned to give the correct amount of fuel for the extra boost.
Either way....it ain't no thang.

BTW....I like your username. I was a big Calvin and Hobbes fan....

Log some EGT's with this thing WOT is not going to be that bad (as bad as other chips, but the real problem is going to be at part throttle settings with the BCS system. GET AN EGT TO MAKE SURE THE BCS IS NOT TOO HOT AT PART THROTTLE!
It's your car, do what you will, but understand the mods and they affect the overall vehicle. YMMV, IMHO, ETC....

well, I'll post some plots I made last night to show this......but yep, the injector duty cycle went up, proportional to the boost (MAF flow) I dialed up.
I'd like to see someone with a chip post similar data (block 2, rpm, MAF, inj. on time)...that would pretty much show the difference between the stock MAP responding to the BCS and the "tuned" response.
But, let me get the data up first so everyone can beat on it....
