I've had a problem for the past few weeks in that in 4th and 5th my car will drop and gain boost like a yoyo. I was pointed in the direction of the map sensor at the I/C so decided to take a further look tonight. I noticed that on the turbo side of the intercooler the silicone pipe was quite oily inside, is this normal?
If the map sensor is not at fault then its likely to be my turbo wastegate, is there any sort of log i can do in vag-com to check this out?

That's called oil blow-by, and is completely normal. I had it built up on the outside of the pipe as well where it's connected to the IC. A can of brake clean will clean it with ease...
