Re: TURBO TIMER? (pinoy53169)

turbo gets hot durring "spirited" driving.
turbo has oil and coolant pumped through it
when the engine is shut off, the oil pump turns off, thus no more flow of oil
the oil that is sitting in your turbo starts to boil and looks like its makin some Heroin. in turn, this can solidify your oil and screw up yer 'urbo ( http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif )
so what a turbo timer does is it keeps your engine running (while you walk into your house, the store, etc) to cool it down to a medium; keeping the oil flowing until its cooled down.
class dismissed.

Re: TURBO TIMER? (Beaker)

The turbo timer and the alarm may not get along with each other. At least this was the case with the Audi A4, no doubt, it's going to be the same.
So after a nice spirited drive, just sit and relax with the engine on for a few minutes.

Re: TURBO TIMER? (Beaker)

Sounds like a good explanation to me. I have a turbo, just haven't installed it yet. It works basically on the same idea as a Remote Start, but reversed. If that makes any sense at all. He had it on the nose with the metaphor of cooking heroin (don't think I would have related it to that though, but clever) From what I understand, most turbo timers are adjustable with time. The shock to the turbo from just shutting it off even after just driving normal, let alone roughly, is bad. Shortens the life of the Turbo. Why they don't just come with the car in the first place, I don't know. I guess its so they can sell you parts after your warranty is out. Anyways, to make a long story short, you don't have to have a Turbo Timer in your car, it would just help. Another, FREE way of doing it, is when you drive the car, and you get to where ever you are going, sit in the car and let it run for a minute or two. Let it rest on its own. Thats what I am doing until I get mine installed.

Re: TURBO TIMER? (pgoughary)

quote:

There is a way to install a Turbo Timer in the VWs without affecting the alarm/windows, or anything else. Do a search.

how about lets not be an azzhole.
pgoughary,
I have been searching this thread now for 2 months, monitoring any posts about Turbo Timers. There is still a TON of unanswerd questions that no one still has the answers too. I will recieve my Turbo Timer tomorrow in the mail and I am going to try to answer most of them tomorrow.
the 'how to's' by swankmonkey and cosmic motorsports are for pre-'02 cars. no one yet has figured out how to wire them correctly in a '02.
So before you go off being a jackass on here telling people to use the search button, maybe you should use it yourself.
