I was driving on the highway today sandwiched between a big old truck in front of me, and a semi-behind me. I go and turn the heater and blower on...turned it on a few minutes before hand, and then it sounds like my front right wheel is about to fall off. The noise sounded like a vacuum cleaner with something stuck in it (high pitch/grind...low pitch/grind, repeat) or an R/C racer with one messed up motor. I turn off the heater/a/c unit and realize the sound stops. Start it up again, and there she blows/screeches.
The heat still blows, but the sound has me worried. The sound seems to be coming from underneathe the glove box?
Also, I barely run the heater, b/c it smells like exhaust fumes (assume it's an exhaust leak somewhere) and the a/c was out this summer (again, bought it that way).
I've done a 'search' and read about the heater core recall...but isn't that just for leaky heater cores? I'm not positive, but I don't think mine 'leaks'...just makes a terrible whiny/grinding/sucking sound.
Help?!
