for <23k waht car would u guys get between the GT-S or 1.8t gti 2002?
celica:
very fast
reliable toyota
very lightweight
japanese styling

gti:
turbo
kind of heavy
expensive aftermarket
nice interior and styling
CRAP service and reliability
UGH someone help me with some opinions

Celica - Fugly, looks like Basmati, taste like Jasmine

Actually Toyota's are great cars, I just dont like their styling and that is an entirely personal opinion.

I'll give you reliability, but Japanese styling? That's a plus??? I know its all about personal preference, but I just don't dig Japanese car styling. They just don't do it for me.
Go with the 1.8T. Now, German styling....aww yeeahh! Now we're talking! Plus, VW's aren't THAT bad as far as reliability. Infact, I think they are quite good. I am on my third GTI and none had any major probs. ALL cars have their quirks. I have 30K on my 2001 VR6 and have had no problems.

ugh. the celica gts isnt "REALLY FAST"...
its pretty much the same speed as a 2k2 1.8t...
so you have to add "REALLY FAST" to the gti's pros

I personally don't like the looks of the new celicas. I would definetly get the GTI

Theres nothing like German styling.

oh, and 5yr old vws look alot better than 5yr old toyotas if you're gunna actually be stuck with it for a while

Let me brake it down to you this way. Celica = thousands of dollars and maybe 30HP gains with still NO torque in the motor. GTI = couple thousand dollars and 80HP/100 ft-lbs torque gains! How about that? to me you can't compare a turbo and a non-turbo car to each other...

i think the new Celica GTS is a BAd aSS car... BUT... i have raced it... its not That fast...
a 1.8T is definately a better choice... Truthfully, u will be able to get so muhc more from the GTi. .... u wont regret it.

get the GTI. the power of the celica is more ridiculous than the ranges of a honda. the vw is a realistic performance car. power can be used close to anywhere in the revrange, and downshifts make up for where theres a lack in power. the celica is just STUPID! test drive one and feel where the power comes in- its a big jump, but its just not enough to sell you.

yea my best friend is waiting on his...
the only way for him to max out on any torque that he can have is if he shifts at like 8300 and then hits his max torque point at around 6800 or something so that the toyota variable valve timing http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif or whatever kicks in and gives him some more power.

ZUBER SPEED: you call the celica unoriginal?? wtf? its totally damn original! the styling is something different. perhaps you meant unoriginal in the sense that a lot of people have them?? well the same thing could be said about GTIs.
