Ultimate FWD sports car

Ok, ok, ok. There is no such thing (flamebait inserted). But amongs the FWD cars, which one is truly the sportiest? There's some choices written above, if it's not listed, then post a comment and include a picture. Or include a picture and post a comment about any of the above mentioned cars. Also, note when I say "Volkswagen GTi" I mean either the Driver's Edition (which includes a much stiffer chassis) or one of the original Mk. I or Mk. II models.

Re: Ultimate FWD sports car (strlen)

Of course I've left out the Volkswagen Corrado (which my vote
would probably go to), the Volkswagen Scirocco, the Skoda Octavia RS,
the Lada 110 GTi (hey I'm Russian), the Nissan Maxima, the Nissan
Sentra SE-R Spec V, the Nissan Altima, Audi TT front-trak.

...pontiac sunfire

Aka Chevrolet Cavalier.. is Z/24 / Sunfire GT what you've meant? If
so there's a big point. The 2.4 liter is probably the best American-made
naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine (at 150 hp), the entire combo
makes for a very decent sports-compact. On the flip side, the J-bodies
have been the fastest growing and ugliest looking part of the r!ce
arena.
Also, I've forgotten to mention Dodge Neon R/T, Dodge Neon ACR,
Eclipse GS-T and the upcoming Dodge Neon SRT.

You forgot the Peugeot 306 GTi-6, which has to be one of the greatest front driver I have ever driven. 206 GTi-6 still handles like a dream but its road feel is no where near 306's precision and crispness, although it feels 1000X better than my Mk4 already.

haha. are you kidding me? i have alot of respect for maxes, and i really like the VQ35DE, but not as a sports car. i think of maximas on par with passats, and i definately wouldn't throw the passat into this mix of cars.
Peugeot/ITR for me. if you haven't driven an ITR you just wouldn't understand
Re: Ultimate FWD sports car (nmap)

...people took me seriously on the pontiac sunfire? in that case, mk4 golf/jetta
Re: Ultimate FWD sports car (-GTR-)

...you know what else is really funny about this post, seeing that most of us live in the states, is that other than the integra, have any of you driven the seat etc.? another spec-whoring/magazine-whoring post.

Re: Ultimate FWD sports car (-GTR-)

A4 Jetta _has_ indeed driven the Pug 206 and 306, but the fact that
I haven't may be one of the reasons why I'm posting it. And yes I
did take you serious on Sunfire / Cavalier, since they're pretty decent
for the price, despite the r!ce factor and ugly look, and the J-bodies
do have quite a following.

no, really, my vote would have to go to the 1990-1991 era Lotus Elan http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

SVT Focus - you know the one that kicked the GTI 1.8T and Civic Si's butt in that recent C&D comparo.
Seriously though, it's going to be an impressive little car and I can't wait to get my hands on one.
Since it's not on the list, I'll give my vote to the ITR.

Re: Ultimate FWD sports car (strlen)

This just goes to show the average age on the Vortex must be about 12
,
because the ultimate FWD "sportscar" (term used very loosely when refering to most of the cars on this list) is the MINI .
Early tests indicate the new one will kick just as much dust in RWD cars faces

Re: Ultimate FWD sports car (strlen)

hey, i gotta represent!
Re: Ultimate FWD sports car (strlen)

sorry to burst your bubble but there's no such thing as a front wheel drive sports car. there are front wheel drive sports COUPES, and front wheel drive sport COMPACTS. by definition, sports CARS are rear wheel drive

Hey Now!!! Dodge Daytona R/T Turbo III 224hp 2.2l, The heads were designed by Lotus and it was mighty fast! I certainly would not roll my eyes at them.

How about the Mini Cooper?

Re: Ultimate FWD sports car (Obin Robinson)

Actually Obin, the SCCA considers the CRX to be a true sports car... as well as the FWD Lotus Elan, the early '90s Mercury Capri, and the Del Sol.
It's not a choice, but the CRX gets my vote, specifically the Japanese-market glasstop CR-X SiR-II. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Well, the Capri is just a Mercury Miata. The XR2 models are interesting... factory turbo. I'd rock one.
