Yeah. But as far as I know, Unitronic hasn't released info on what their original Stage 1 shift map was, so nothing to compare the Stage 1a map against even if they'd given us details. If I have a gripe about Unitronic, it is the amazing lack of product documentation - would it kill them to have a product revision changelog?
I've flashed TCU 1a on my 2016 DSG R, and it works, no issues so far, but I haven't driven it enough yet to notice any possible seat-of-the-pants differences.
Any update on any differences you notice with the updated TCU tune? I have their Stage 2 ECU and TCU tune on my 2016, and I was wondering if there was an update. Been pretty happy with it so far. I might purchase the cable if there are updates available.
Man why all the hate for Unitronic lately. Been super happy with stage 2, yes there are those waiting for stage 3 and bigger turbo's etc...I get it but seriously, I have not had a bad experience yet other than what has been caused by my own stupidity. I for one am glad they do take the time they do to get things right, even if it takes longer. Been waiting forever for the MQB Tiguan tune that just came out but they said they were working on it and they delivered. If they were developing for just the Mk7 they would be bankrupt, there are other platforms and they all need their share of attention and its a pandemic so we've had a lot to deal with this year. I'm not sorry that my Tiguan development or my friends RS3 development this year took away from you guys getting stage 3 on the mk7.
It's simple economics too folks, most mk7s are out of warranty now (those earlier purchases) so bigger turbo's and tunes are starting to make sense. I know we're voiding warranties to some extent anyway going stage 2 but a newish car that had a warranty and jumping to stage 3 could be drastic....we all pay to play, but some are just more willing than others to take higher risks, that doesn't mean all of us are. I will go stage 3 as well some day, but I'm working my way into it and still enjoying a dependable daily driver....for you track stars, I get it. Maybe Unitronic isn't the brand for you then. But why smear them? Of course they aren't going to respond on forums that are bashing them.
To top it off with the likes of the American tuners getting slapped for emissions and ending downpipe and other development, you should be happy there is an option still out of Canada.
I do however agree that it would be good if Unitronic had a way of eblasting owners about their software update; with details of the changes, who its for, what it changes so we can make an informed decision. Not much different than updating your Operating System except we don't keep the unitronic cables plugged in all the time getting auto-updates...some sharing would be good though.
I think it’s less about how good the tune is and more about a lack of communication and repeatedly leading the customer to believe they will release upgrades and updates, and never following through on that promise.
I overpaid for a Stg 2 tune that is slower than everybody else’s, with no upgrade path, and in the end I had to transition to COBB / EQT in order to get that upgrade path, essentially throwing away money spent on their tune. Also, my JB4 was faster in the top end than Uni, and 90% as smooth. So I had immediate buyers remorse. I stuck with Uni though because I thought I would have upgrade options. It seems like that will never become a reality, (for others at least, I have already moved on) IDK [emoji2373]
Is the Stg 2 a good tune? Yes, it’s ok. It’s very safe. But it’s more like other companies Stg 1+. That will be good enough for some people, but the EQT 93 octane tune is big step up in power, and the EQT E30 tune blows it away. It is scary fast. I may not even need Stg 3 with this tune, it is fast enough. EQT also has much better peddle feel. It’s like it has a peddle box built in. It has much better daily driving “pep” off the line. I had to depress the peddle half way down to get Uni to go and even then it felt sluggish.
I do like Uni’s “Burbbles” better. They are more authentic sounding and less “Shots fired” pops & bangs than EQT. They happen when revving in park, and have the start up rev with burbles (unlike EQT) which is cool [emoji1303]
Not “trashing” Uni, just giving an honest opinion / critique about pros and cons since I have experience with 4 different tunes on my car.
I had the battery disconnected for a bit yesterday, and after reconnecting and driving around a bit the car feels noticeably faster and more responsive. Am I going crazy or could something be going on here? 2019 R with Uni Stage1+ and Stage 1 DSG tune.

You had probably been pulling timing from either sub optimal fuel or high intake temps so once you reconnected it started from scratch without the timing being pulled.
I have been on unironic stage 2 for a year and did multiple 0-100 tests, with two different tires, my oldish ps4s, and brand new re71. I have changed intercooler, downpipe, did the intake mode, and dogbone insert, pretty much everything. Tested in on multiple surfaces and temperatures but was never able to get within 4 seconds which is slower than all the other tunes. I just purchased a new intake which is the only piece missing from their recommended list, I am going to go to the dyno once it arrived and if the dyno number is also **** I am going to move on from UNI.
On a very grippy, rough asphalt road where I did all of my 0-60mph testing with Draggy, averaging my times in both directions, I got 3.8s on 93 octane stage 2, and I weigh 225 pounds. I'm happy with that, especially given that I trust Unitronic's tunes more than just about anyone else's. I also prefer the more naturally aspirated linear-feeling power delivery, which is also likely safer.
I also got a 3.9 0-60 on Stage 2 on 91 octane. I have an r600 intake and Uni Downpipe, as well as CTS Turbo muffler delete and Turbo Inlet Pipe. I am very happy as I am also happy with the Stage 1 tune on my Tiguan.
I went from a Uni Stg 2 to EQT Stg 2 e30 and the difference is night and day. EQT feels, and is noticeably faster, even on 93 tunes never mind e30. Guys are getting 3.2-3.4 0-60’s and very low 11’s in the 1/4. If you get mid 11’s (never mind low) with the Uni tune, it’s a fluke. The EQT 93 tune is at or above 400 WHP (depending on dyno, they fluctuate as you know). the e30 tune is probably 420 wheel. It is an absolute animal for an OTS tune. Their Stg 3 Hybrid turbos are doing 440tq, 500hp wheel on the stock engine, 520tq, 600hp on built (To the wheels).
The Uni Stg 2 tune was disappointing coming from a JB4. I paid a lot of money and it wasn’t faster or even that much smoother. I felt a bit better that it was not a piggy-back and probably healthier to run for my engine, but not $700 better. It is a safe, ok, Stg 2 tune. I don’t FEEL like it’s that much faster than stock, but I am FBO + so that might make a difference in stock power, IDK.
I would have not felt so salty if there was ANY upgrade path offered by UT like they said they were going to have instead of making promises they didn’t intend to keep and then ghosting their customers. So I said [emoji1308]out and jumped ship to EQT and COBB. I just wish I had found EQT before wasting $1200 on Uni’s non-transferable, non-sellable tunes and dongle.
BTW, EQT is now tuning the RS3 using ECUTEK and I bet we’ll see better #’s.

That’s very interesting. My car is stock and I’m going to be deciding which tune to go with come spring time. Coming from the domestic world, I find it frustrating that not a lot of dyno graphs exist amongst the tunes.
The eqt tune you speak of sounds great and I’ll be doing reading. I’ve also found out that apr tunes cause issues and potential engine damage. As great as every bit of hp is, safety should be taken into account too for reasons obvious. How’s the eqt tcu tune ?

Go EQT. If you ever want to go Stg 3 you will have that option with the Accessport (which unlike the Uni dongle has a screen that shows customizable metrics, AND does logging). EQT’s tunes are very smooth and have much better throttle response. As for DSG I feel like Uni’s tune was smoother. EQT’s shifting has had a delay on me once or twice from one shift to the next. But Uni’s couldn’t hold power. I had DSG clutchs slipping in third gear and above. So I would go with EQT’s regardless.
If you wait for a sale like tax return, stimulus check, or Black Friday, you can get the access port for around $600 and a free tune of your choice. The DSG tunes are also deeply discounted. I think you would end up paying $700 and change for the AP, the ECU and DSG tunes. Compare that with Uni’s $1200 and it’s a no-brainer. Also, I’m not sure if I mentioned this but the access port can be unmarried to your car and resold later to recoup some cost, where Uni‘s is permanently married to the car and cannot. You will not recoup any money from their tune.
Definitely check out the FAQ on Equilibrium Tuning site, and also join the Facebook group. Lots of activity support and information there.
1. Their support is fantastic. If you have a question the answer you back literally within minutes if not seconds on the Facebook group. Sometimes during insane sale traffic, you may have to wait a bit longer for a direct answer from Ed or Patrick who are the main contacts at the company. There are several other admin‘s though they can help answer any questions you have. As well as people in the forums who’ve already asked those questions and will answer you.
2. Complete transparency... a couple months back there were a couple motors that blew on the EQT tune but it was not actually EQT‘s fault. Cobb released an update to the cob launch control which allowed very high boost during launch control when it should’ve only been around 10 psi. A couple people sat on the launch control because it was fuel cut, and sounded cool and they want to do a video which ended up messing up their engines. That issue has since been fixed and I would stick with the OEM launch control anyway as it seems to get better 60 foot times. The company took care care of anyone who had that issue and the Facebook group actually started a go fund me to help fund people Who blew their engines.

How was the eqt dsg tune as far as the harshness of the shifts is concerned ? The one thing I’d like to avoid is having trashy, banging and harsh shifts which IMO isn’t good for anything - especially these expensive 7 speed dsg gear boxes. If it simply
Shifts faster- and hold the power as you say, then that’s awesome.
I was just reading their site- they dyno the car in 2wd setting and obtained a number of 384 whp.
Based on drivetrain loss in 4wd; this should put them right along uni and racingline ecu tunes.
Why? I’d rather go with United for stage 3 u can adjust the haldex and the boost pressure through United I kinda wish I chose them instead of unitronics but I didn’t think I’d ever be going stage 3
