Unplugged my ISV an wow!

MY car has been idling pretty crappy now for about 3 months. I was doing some digging on the vortex and people had said that to improve your idle in some situations to unplug your ISV. I did this today, and my car drastically improved its idle. The funny part is, that when I plugged back in the ISV, the car automatically went to a rough, crappy idle. Does this mean my ISV is broken or just dirty? Well thought I'd share with you guys incase someone else out there had a crappy idle, and wants to test it out and see if the ISV is the problem. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

ISV is the idle stabilizer valve. It's located right to the right of your intake mani (assuming you have a 16v) It helps to stabilize you idle. If it gets dirty, or broken, you can get crappy idling or idle problems.. hope that helps..

I don't have an ISV on my digi 2 16v. It nice not having the motor trying to find a good idle all the time, It idles at a nice 850 and doesn't move up and down or bounce http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Yeah, I've had the EXACT SAME problem..
But I can't find the ISV. My stupid Haynes manual doesn't have anything useful about the idle air stabilizer. It's next to the intake manifold? "Intake Manifold" isn't in the index.
What IS the intake manifold? The thing the throttle body hooks up to?
And specific directions OR a pic would be nice

i dont want to come off wrong, but if you have questions like that, you should buy a bentley manual.
8v ISV

it's the thing to the right of the intake connected to the black pipe that runs across where my plug wires should go

Seriously, the Haynes manual sucks and the Chilton isn't much better. You really need to get a Bentley. Best $38 I've ever spent: http://www.parts4vws.com/catal...00112

Cleaning it out...I read something somewhere that said you should soak it in carb cleaner overnight. Would that do it?

just shoot carb cleaner throught it. soaking it would probably start melting things that arent metal...as that stuff is strong

On my G60 I plugged this little house at the verry end of the Inatke mani and $hit was all messed bad gas milage and **** I could actauly watch the needl go down then whne i let off the peddle it woudl move up some. I unplugged it and it wnet back to normal same with my 85 coupe i unplugged it cause I was getting really really bad gas milage and it improoved my gas milage a lot. didnt know abotu this ISV though.
