I just got my GTI back from the paint shop today, time to put her together.
Well guys, Here's a pic of my 86 GTI before undergoing bodywork, euro fenders, and respray:

Here she is today getting picked up at the paint shop:
Full custom black paint... it absorbs almost all light! Is that black or what?

*notice the '85 GTI no-brakelight rear window!*

This is what she's gonna look similar to when she's done:

That tip and exhaust system is on its way to being gone.. installing a Brullen system. Maybe I'll put my 16" Ronal R-26s!

Sharing the otherside of my garage is this car. Thats my Datsun 510 project, soon to be powered by a Bridgeported 13b rotary!

Doing anything with tails?? 1/2 smoked would look good up against that nice black paint.
Re: Updates on my '86 GTI Project (jervwgti)

yeah i would definitely go half smoked, and i really like those rims, what are those? kinda deep, but not too deep, kinda just right...
Re: Updates on my '86 GTI Project (jervwgti)

I'm thinking about either doing 1/2 smoked, all reds or M3s. But as prices are.. i think that 1/2 smoked are probably gonna be the way to go.
The wheels are actually pretty cool. I've had them for about 4 years now.. my friend bought them brand new for his GTI back in 1994!

Atlanta boys have always had ICEY HOT (lol) A1s and A2s and stuff. My friend Jeff has had a A2 VR6 GTI since 1997 back when the only swaps on the web were those of Weyland Gee's and RPIs car. My friend Brown has a A1 G60 GTI thats going ATP turbo soon. We have a A3 2.0 Turbo, a grip of 16v Caddys and one 2.0 Caddy. 4-5 A2 VR6s now. Hehehe... despite rumors that Atlanta is a new VW (A3-A4) city.. nah.. the old skool boys are still well and alive.. we're just not that loud about it.

The bodywork, prep, and paint cost me a total of $600 with my friend doing all the work. I'm going to wait a few weeks before I put the car back together so I can get my other friend to color-sand the car and get some of the orange peel outta it. There is about 1 gallon of paint on the car!

Quazar,
The GTIs lookin' good, but I'd really like to hear about what you're doing to that 510! Is there another site devoted to 510s that you're documenting your work on?
Keep up the good work! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Nah. I don't have a site thats devoted to my 510. Right now, I'm mostly trying to get the mechanical things and little trim pieces and all that collected and sorted out for it. Its a '72 PL510. Anyways.. I'm planning on doing a Bridgeported 13b with Carbon seals, running a Racing Beat Manifold with a Holley 600 cfm double pumper. A custom driveshaft has been made utilizing mazda front u-joints to the datsun rear u-joints. The rear differential is a Subaru R-160 Viscous LSD. Hopefully with the Bridgeport, it'll put out 240hp or so at the flywheel, thats more than enough to drive my 1800lb 510 into fast times!
