I would like to know what parts are required to upgrade the rear drums on a 92 Jetta to the GTI discs. Can you please provide a list, and a brief how-to?
Thanks,
Matt
PS. My apologies if this has been covered to death, I searched and did not get what I need.

Re: Upgrading rear drums to discs for a 92 Jetta (Can9016V)

Hey,
If I were you, I'd find an A2 with rear discs, release the PB nuts at the lever, drop the shock bolts, drop the pivot bolts and pull the whole axle assembly thing out.
I did this swap on a Jetta, but had the luxury of a dead GLI to pull it from. Whatever you do, don't buy this swap new, it's freaking expensive.
Cheers

Parts needed off Gti: stub axle, dust shield, caliper carrier, caliper, e- brake cables, and brake hose (but you may have to do some modifications to the brake lines as well).. Buy new rotor, pads, bearing seals.

I agree; this kit is much more expensive to buy new. I just bought a used kit off a GTI for $200 Cdn. and everything is pretty much in good condition.

hmmmm... first you need to ask yourself do you really need this swap? Are you planning on track days/roadracing/autoX for this car? If not, save your money and either get same size slotted rotors and better pads up front or bigger rotors up front. Your rear drums will do just fine, there are plenty of IT spec race cars out there who have to use factory drums and they make out just fine under extreme conditions
