UPsolute AWW chip..... removable???... how to return to stock???? any chips????

819 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  jim wilson
Basically I am looking to get my 2001 Jetta WOlfsburg UPsoluted.....
my one hesitation is that I would love it if I could simply pop open my ecu and throw in a stock chip when I go to VW for service or if anything goes wrong.
is there such a thing that I could do???
is there another chip that allows for this if UPsolute does not???
and if you are going to say..."dude, why don't you use the search feature??", well basically it is worthless....
so thanks for your input everyone... you have all been really helpful thus far.... soon I will post pics of my car with my new suspension that is sitting in my living room.....
thanks

Upsolute takes out your stock chip, re-flashes it, and then puts it back into the ECU. If you take it to the dealer, your local Upsolute rep will have to 'flash' you back to stock mode. You can't do it yourself. If you wanted to do something yourself, you could buy a "spare" ECU, chip the "spare unit" and then you could swap entire ECU's before dealer visits...but to do this, you'll also need to buy a VAG-COM so you can reinitialize your immobilizer codes. This is kind of a pricey option.
There is a switchable program for upsolute chips (check out the forums on http://www.upsolute.com) but it's currently not available for the 2001's (AWW engine code). Maybe in the future? I hope so

edit: APR offers a chip that is switchable back to stock mode, although it's something like $900, compared to Upsolute at $350 (or something close) http://www.goapr.com

We can install a socket or you can have Chris Green(1 mile from sample rd and 441) put you back to stock for visits.

Excuse my retardation... so if there is a socket made for me.... which I think I would like.... I just pop my old sucker in there before I go to the shop???
thanks

Upsolute offers another option, for $50 more. They will sockett your chip and you can switch them yourself.
Drawbacks - The socket has to be obvious if the ECU is opened & can cause problems with contact between chip & socket

wow i never heard of upsolute doing sockets. Which dealer does that?
that makes their product a lot more friendly imo.

We do offer something that does this, it's our EMCS technology that allows you to retain your stock program along with our chipped program on one ECU. It is controlled by you through your cruise control stalk at any time. You can also have a race (100 octane) program added and a valet mode as well. You can also have a security code lock out applied too to keep anyone from playing with your cruise stalk to see what you have. Fortunately it isn't quite $900. The base chip is $499 and then the EMCS with the two program set up (stock and chipped) is an additional $149. Other options vary in price, give me a call for complete info and all the details. Hope this helps.

If you're worried about the dealer, the only 100% safe way to go is to buy a chipped ECU ~$725 and keep your stock ECU for visits, that way if you blow your engine and the dealer opens the ECU you save ~$4000. It would be ashame if he saw a daughter board or sockett and had to charge you $4000.
