Used Probably Defective ECU For Sale

603 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Blk Mgc Man
So, the story is that several months ago I bought an extra ECU for my 99 Passat 1.8T Tiptonic through this forum, since I figured that was the safest way to chip (keep the original ECU stock, chip the one I bought). Unfortunately the ECU turned out to be defective — the oil pressure light comes on all the time. And the individual I bought it from said it was good when he shipped it to me, so I'm out a whole lot of bucks, unless...
Would a (probably) defective ECU be of use to anyone? I'd like to recover some of what I spent.
Note that the ECU has a socket now for the chip, and the original chip is on a card that's plugged into the socket. (The chip shop discovered the defect after chipping.)
If you're interested, please email me at home: [email protected]
Thanks!
/Andy

Would you take a cheque that will probably bounce?

Funny...

if the guy that you bought it from said it was working when he shipped it, and it's not working now, shouldn't shipping insurance cover the cost of the damage in transit? It seems to me that either his insurance should cover the cost or he should give you a refund and why was he selling it to begin with. Sounds kind of fishy to me. In any event ,you shouldn't get stuck with it. Just my opinion of course

Well, I feel the same way, but...
1. It was several months ago;
2. The guy said it was OK when he last used it, but...
3. That wouldn't be good enough to get the shipper to pay anything, plus...
4. There was no evidence of damage to the shipping container.
5. The guy I bought it from was unwilling to even accept a compromise!
So, I'm stuck with it. But, it may be of use to someone else. That's why I posted it here.

I've found a buyer...

Someone's interested in buying the ECU. So it looks like I'll be recovering some of my loss, and the buyer will be getting a fair deal (he set the price) for the unit.
Thanks,
/Andy

Who did you buy it from? ECU's just don't go bad sitting on a shelf. Obviously the seller sold you a defective product and took you for a ride. Publish the name here and on ClubB5 so the individual will not be able to do the same to somebody else.
