Yes, after 3 grueling weeks in limp mode and trying to get scanned ( tried to stay away from the dealer until I knew what was going on ), a friendly vortexer met me up tonight with his Vag-Com.
I've been suspecting a bad MAF.. the 2 codes thrown says..
1.Low Voltage (battery problem apparently)
2.Engine running Lean
I know this isn't much to go on, but considering that my car just seemed to die one day, and that my engine is running lean, and MAF's are problematic... you guys concur?
help!

Re: Vag-Com pros, 3 weeks of Limp mode and I FINALLY got scanned, Vag-Com says...(help) (THE Wuss)

it might help if you list any mods you have. So, it all the sudden one day went into limp mod? I'm very surprised it doesn't throw codes for any bad sensors that would cause it to run lean...

=( i didnt, the guys laptop zonked out right after we got the codes.
I don't have any extensive mods, UPsolute chip, pipercross panel drop in filter, HPA catback. That's it.
Any theories?

That's too bad that you didn't get the exact codes.
One very common code shows up when the ECU is unplugged:
18010 - Power Supply Terminal 30 voltage to low
Is that the one you had?
As far as the lean codes, they can be misleading. Long Term Fuel Trim Lean actually means that the car has been running rich, and the ECU has been correcting for it.
Usual culprits for rich/lean codes are MAF and/or O2 sensors.

That's the thing, I thought I'd be running rich. (mostly just becuase my exhaust seems to "pop" more frequently since my limp mode) I will stop by the dealer tomorrow.

I agree most lean or rich conditions I've seen are always related to MAF/02 sensor or a Leak in the intake with Maf removed..since you don't really get negative deviations too much afterwards.

Re: Vag-Com pros, 3 weeks of Limp mode and I FINALLY got scanned, Vag- (Bug_Power)

i was just at the dealer and had the tech check on my maf senser. he said on the 2000 or the awd's are the ones that had bad maf's usually and that on newer ones there never to seem to really be problems on those and at the dealer they have a machine that can test it and he told me what my percentages were and they were good. the low voltage is probably from you disconnecting the battery sometime since you last had your car scanned cause i heard that might through a code. but if your running lean you might think of a 4 bar fuel pressure regualtoer for the fuel and dyno to see if that helps you. just my thoughts for you.

I have used 4 bar FPR's as a band aide for people who don't have the time or $$$ to get it fixed correctly NOW, however I wouldn't suggest or reccommend using one as a long term fix. There is a reason you car has thrown this code, if it's just a 1 time glitch fine, but if it comes back and you go into limp mode have the car diagnosed and repaired properly. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

i fully agree i was just saying if from your mods you were running lean that would be a good thing to try to correct the problem. but definately have it checked out if thsi is constant or repeats itself

thanks for the info guys. I'm out of bumper to bumper warranty, but if it is the MAF, then I sure as hell will take it up with VW. I don't see the need to pay 500 dollars for something even VW recognizes as a chronic problem.
