valet key

I bought my 2001 Jetta used from a BMW dealership, and they didn't have the valet key.
Is there any way to get a valet key cheper than from the VW dealership? They're asking ~$70.00.
Does anyone have an extra one they'd like to sell me?

You probably have to get it at a dealership... unless you are lucky (or unlucky) enough to find someone else that has the SAME key as you.

No one has an extra one they can sell you, due to the fact that it only opens their car...and their car only.

Someone who works at a dealership (and steals this kind of stuff) might have an extra one they can sell. Then, I only have to pay my dealership for the cutting.

I don't know if the dealership actually has "blanks" but probably orders the cut keys from VAG. I know that other german automakers do this, and I know that I had to wait a couple of weeks to get another VW key for my car.

supposedly the key for my 2001 has a chip in it that is needed to start the car (including the valet key) so i don't think that you can just have them cut, you'd need that chip too.

the stealership never gave me a valet key... and i am stoopid cos i never knew there was a valet key until more than a year had gone by
