Typically we are seeing lash around .35 intake and .45 exhaust for large lift and duration street cams, but those are quite a bit bigger then the stock minimum. This is something I've always wondered about as I would like to close up the lash to something more like .20-.25 intake and .30-.35 exhaust, comments?
If the cam makers don't give you a setting then the standard clearance should be used.
You can play about with the clearance, big clearance give more low rev torque while a tight clearance give good high revs torque.
The tighter the clearance the easier it is to burn out a valve, motor bikes run as little as 2 thou and they don't burn out in a hurry.
Rather not embarrass myself with my gap in knowledge...
Something I was wondering was a recommendation for one to be tighter- I forget if it Intake or Exhaust though.
A little knowledge can be dangerous.
If a person was running say a Schrick 276 that lash setting would give you almost equal to a Schrick 280 assym. The 280 is supposed to ahve better mid range and no loss in top end by restricting the exhaust.
