also, when im on the freeway i get more noise from the wind then i feel i should.. shouldi replace the door seals? anything else? or should i just expect this from a 16 year old car?

Re: vapor barrier (253jetta)

just use 3mil plastic drop cloth to re-do vapor barriers, use 3m spray glue to attach it.
Re: vapor barrier (under the radar)

Re: vapor barrier (253jetta)

Plastic garbage bag + RTV silicon = win

compared to modern cars, yes, it's noisy. Make sure your door seals are not rotten away. That's about all you can do for wind noise.

Re: vapor barrier (253jetta)

There's wind noise near the doors from the mirrors. Nothing will change that other than a different type of mirror.
Re: vapor barrier (253jetta)

roll down the windows... what noise?
Wind noise/drafts has 4 possible sources
Deformed or torn weatherstrip
Misaligned door stationed too far outward and thus not getting the 30-50% compression reccommended by manufacturer
Damaged Belt moulding
No vapour barrier
Fix/inspect one at a time.
Re: (geetarhero)

I took mine off a GTI that were still new (18k) Heat gun and thin double sided 3M tape..
Re: (Capt.Dreadz)

I don't have vapor barriers anymore.
