Vented discs swap question

My solid http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif front discs are warped on my 8V 91 GTI. I want to upgrade to vented ones. I know earlier 8Vs had them and 16V.
Is there a difference between those early 8V and 90-something 16V vented discs? I got a price of $43CDN each for 16V, is that good deal?

[EDIT] I know I need pads too. What's a good price on those?

If you use the same diamater rotors and just move from solid to vented that is all you need. Well, you need vented pads too cause they are a little thiner to allow for the thicker rotor.

That's right. The 9.4" solid and vented rotors are interchangeable; you just need to use the correct pads. Plan on replacing the screws, while you're at it.

Yeap that is exactly what I did on my 91 GTI 8v. Direct swap, couldn't be more simple.

Yep. And wheels to clear them. I'm not sure if 14s can clear 10.1 brakes.

10.1" brakes were also available on the 16v Scirocco so the good news is that 14" rims will clear. 13" rims are another story - with the right offset (or a good set of spacers), some rims will actually fit.

My '89 GLI 16V has 10.1" rotors; the change ocurred in mid-'89 on Jettas. The Golfs had 9.4" discs through '92.

I thought you need new knuckles with the 10.1's as well as calipers, pads and rotors...
