The fourth "WAVE" (World Advanced Vehicle Expedition) Rally took place in June 2014, in challenging alpine terrain. The largest electric car parade in the world this year resulted in a total of 80 teams from Stuttgart to the Rigi, Lucerne. At the 200-kilometer stages of WAVE, the Volkswagen E-Golf won the first place in the main categories of production vehicles for themselves. Moreover, the Swiss Volkswagen team won the "Range Award" for the best efficiency and range.

Just under 1600 km had to be overcome in eight daily stages of the tour which saw up to 3000 meters in altitude. In this case, the electric vehicle demonstrated its high overall efficiency, among others by its enormous recuperation. The efficiency review of the e-Golf has proven its skills, and the "Range Award" was awarded. With a real consumption of 9.4 kWh per 100 km and a range of 244 kilometers on a single charge, the car was the official factory specification.  Even after 1566 km in eight days, the e-Golf saw a real consumption of 12.3 kWh per 100 km using standard consumption guidelines. The reasons for this are a particularly innovative technology system, improved aerodynamics (Cd = 0.281) and a perfected rolling resistance.
