With Volkswagen participating in so many forms of Motorsport around the world, it’s often difficult to keep track of their performance. Luckily for us, Volkswagen Motorsport goes through the trouble of rounding up all of the key information from their various race series, and puts it all in one press release. Let’s get started.

Wolk celebrates double victory in Zwartkops

Robert Wolk (ZA) celebrated a double victory at the Formula Volkswagen South Africa race weekend in Zwartkops. After the South African drove the best time in qualifying on Saturday he was moved down into the last place on the grid for the first race because he changed his engine. However, Wolk chased strongly in race one and benefitted from a safety car period after a collision between Jason Campos (ZA) and Werner Scholtz (ZA). Wolk won the first race in Zwartkops, ahead of his arch rivals Nicholas van Weely (ZA) and Matthew Merton (ZA), who was delighted with his first podium finish of the season. After race two the podium saw only one change: Wolk won again, followed by van Weely, Werner Scholtz (ZA) was third.

Van der Linde takes the lead in the championship

Just 15 years of age, Sheldon van der Linde (ZA) took the lead in the championship in the Engen Volkswagen Cup after two second places in Zwartkops. The younger brother of Kelvin van der Linde (ZA), who drives in the ADAC GT Masters, was beaten by Dewald Brummer (ZA) in both races. After race one, Van der Linde trailed Brummer by 0.207 seconds. Race two was almost as close: Brummer was 0.461 seconds faster. Daniel Rowe (ZA), who led the championship up to that point, couldn't do better than fourth and fifth place. This sees him move down to second in the overall standings, behind van der Linde and with the same number of points as two-time winner Brummer. Despite this, Juan Gerber (ZA) was awarded 'Driver of the Weekend': Finishing in fifth and sixth he had his best results of the season to date.
