Where is it located, and how can i tell if it's bad?

It's on the alternator. Cylinder looking thing held in by 2 screws. Test the output of the alternator are you getting good voltage? (around 14V?)

on a g60, its a black round thing on the back of the alternator with two screws holding it in. I paid like $20-29 at autozone for a new one. If you take it out and its severely lobed, better replace it before the bad little red battery light comes on (at higher rpm's). Thats the warning you've got about a week left. Once its lights the battery light at 3500 you've probably got 20 miles left.
I think the vr6 design is different, and you're screwed if it goes.
Hope that helps. This is a cheap prevantative maintenance item for the g60's..

mrkrad is correct, the little black TO-3 package Transistor on the back of the Alternator is correct for the G60, I am just adding that I believe that the VR6 alt's are internally regulated, and I believe the V Reg is inside the alternator case. I could be wrong, so someone correct me if I am.
