i know this has been covered before but couldnt find anything in the search. is all thats needed to remove the ac is just a new belt? or do i need a pulley also? anyone have the belt part number?

I just did this.
All you need is the new belt for a non A/C vr6. go to your local vw parts store and ask for a serpentine belt for a non a/c vr6. Mine was only $35 cdn so like $22us

$79!!!!! are you kidding me? for a vr6?
I know the a/c belt is like $50us but $79 for a non ac??

i know, well i called all the local dealers. none had the non a/c belt instock and the best price i got pn it was $53. so i went to autozone and picked one up for $20 on the spot
