I have been wondering about this for a while now, and seeing that i am on this area of my conversion right now and it is buggging me, what do you Turbo Vr6 guys recomend that I do with the main engine breather (On the rocker cover) should i re-ciculate it back into the Engine, OR go for the Oil catch tank approach??
Regards

Do the oil catch tank. It is very foolish to not have crankcase vacum on an FI car or any car for that matter. The vacum promotes better ring sealing thereby reducing blowby and the amount of contaminates that enter the oil. This is why it is there in the first place. This all has an effect on emmisions and fuel economy.
Many guys will just remove this and just live with the odor, but it is not the smartest thing to do.

doh!
Have a read of what he said.... YES he meant GO catch can.....
The catch can works by sitting inbetween the inlet manifold and engine rocker cover. So it works off vacuum. Any drips of oil or oil mist will now condense in the bottom of the catch can on their way down towards the manifold. You can drain this off at regular intervals.
Hi performance FI engines have a lot of blow by into the crankcase - so its best to keep the crankcase in negative pressure so that oil is not forced out past seals like the main crank seals. Use one of those little k&n plug on filters on the crankcase breather and you will spew oil out all over the place during boost.

Doh to you to, Thats just a bit of a different way of using an oil catch tank to what i am use to..
I havent seen many with vacume ON the tank itself.
Most i have seen vent from the engine to the catch tank, to free air.
Hence there would be no vacume on the Engine and that explains why i am a bit confused by what has been wrote above.

yep - its gotta be negative pressure to suck it through.
yep - there are catch cans that dont connect to anything, but I wouldnt use them on a FI engine, especially one like the VR6 thats not built for FI.
Tell us about your set up then. What turbo kit do you have? Any problems so far?
Cheers.

Re: Vr6 Breather Pipes, for Turboed Vr6 Engine... (jcorallo)

For my Turbo Set up i have chosen custom kit to suite my application.
Basically i want a Streetable 300hp (crank hp) car, With this being the main incentive
I have chosen to go the following route:-
MK2 Golf, with Golf Rallye Syncro 4WD setup installed.
2.8Ltr Vr6 Engine.
Turbonetics T3-T4 Hybrid Super V stage 3 Turbocharger.
ATP cast VR6 Exhaust Manifold.
Turbonetics Deltagate Mk2 External Wastegate.
Custom High Flow Intercooler (mounted as per a Golf Rallye)
346cc/min Injectors and uprated Fuel pump.
Eip Copper Head Gasket.
Racewear Headstuds.
Wire Ringed Block.
Remapped by Jabbasport UK.
Power I want is really good low to mid range, so with this in mind
I am running a strange exhaust set up, that has been advised to me.
Its not the usual 3" setup as used by everyone else.
Will let you know what it is once i have proven its function.
Just in case i have to hide back under a stone somewhere!!
As the car is in a Semi Built state at the moment i cant really tell
you of any problems in the setup yet....
Will keep you posted.
Cheers
Keith

Right I think i have sussed this at last.
Here are a couple of pictures of my Golf, taken Late last Year at Goodwood Race Circuit after a Track Day.. Obviously in these pictures it is still N/A.
It is now off the Track and Road, for the Turbocharger conversion.
300hp here we come....
Hope you like it..

I SEE...
You are on about the car that my freind David Barker Paid loads of money to get converted to a Syncro by my freind Marcel de Vries in Holand arent you ????
Marcel Is a superb bloke to know go to http://www.dutchdub.com, its very good.
David Sold the car and has now got a 3.1 Ltr VR6 Corrado.
I believe the new owner got the car Supercharged and that is the car you are talking about.
And is your car the Golf Rallye thats in Stealth racing at the moment getting convertered to be a Turbocharged Vr6 ??? Vince told me he has a customer in Scotland..
By the way the car you are on about is SUPERCHARGED NOT TURBOCHARGED
.........
Oh and my cars running as a concours and Sprint car, (I dont think that SUPERCHARGED one would run both would it?) Maybe it would, i dont think so though!

Any way Thanks VR6x6x4T, Hows YOUR car anyway??
