My friends got a 96 VR6 jetta and i looked at it tonight.
It stalls on startup sometime but the main problem is if you hold the RPM's steady around 1600 the car surges.. like holds and drops then comes back up and drops off.. like it's losing fuel or spark or something. I reset his codes tonight and we're gonna read them tomorrow but i'm looking for some insight.

maybe it just needs a tuneup? plugs, wires, coil packs etc.

is this a positive? i mean if thats a common problem then cool.. he replaced the t/b once before and it fixed it for a little while i believe he said.

Clean it. Does the car have a CEL?

what is safe to clean the t/b with without harming the electronic parts?

throttle body cleaner.
clean it and then re-adjust it with the computer
