"VW" badge on trunk of 2001.5+ taped on or held by pins?

I read from 2 different sources telling me different things. I just want to know how the VW logo emblem on the trunk of a 2001.5 passat is attached so I can remove it. Thanks.

I believe you should heat it being very carefull not to heat up the paint work, then try peeling it off. I think it looks a lot better without the badges.

heat up the letters then use dental floss and saw them off, dont peel them off with your fingers cause the corners might dig into the paint

If you remove the VW symbol (which is also taped on), you will find an indent underneath it.
You will need to either have a bodyshop fill in and paint your trunk lid or find something else to cover it.
I decided to use the badge from the engine cover:

It's the badge from the 2001 Jetta 1.8T engine cover.
Part number: 038 103 940 F
I separated the backing and stuck the metal part over the stock badge.
I bought it from my VW dealer and it cost me (including taxes):
$18 Canadian Dollars which is about $11.31435 US Dollars

Since we're on the subject... does anyone know if there's a similar badge that's black instead of blue? My b5.5 has the silver on black emblem for the wheel caps and the steering wheel badge, but the engine cover one is blue. I'd like to replace it with a black one to match the rest.
Thanks

That is definitely wrong, because I know for a fact that the B5 rear badge is simply taped on and has no pins.
Re: "VW" badge on trunk of 2001.5+ taped on or held by pins? (Stargazer)

There are no pins. I just did a version of Stargazer's badge... Same part, but I removed mine completely. So there's no black border, and it's more flush... I'm very happy with the look... I'll post a pic tomorrow.
To repeat... it's taped on. There are no pins.
Stargazer, Tell me. Is there any curvature to the sedans (vertically) over the distance of the badge. On the variant. The recess is of course flat (planar), but the panel around it curves, such that the top of the recess is less than the bottom. Using the flexible metal front of that badge was nice because it was so conformal. Once O got it off the backing, I filled in flush the concave back of the badge with epoxy, and then just 3M'ed it on the car. Perfect depth, such that the thickness of the tape holds it out enough to have the edge perfectly touch the angled recess edge... like I said I'll take a pic tomorrow...

... thanks again for the info.
Noew I just need to find a white and blue logo like that in a 55-55.5mm diameter, so I can graft them on my Borbet Typs S center caps... anyone?

Here's the dirty pic. Those aren't scratches... just road grime

Chris,
That's looks great. You don't need the black border because the blue matches well with the colour of your car.
On the sedan, there is a slight curvature, top to bottom, but it doesn't look as much as it does on yours.
