VW FREE scheduled maintenance - Need input! 8-)

Hello to all you VW pros!
I was just informed by my local VW dealer that VW NO LONGER offers the FREE "scheduled maintenance" for the first 2yrs/24Kmi. on 2002 models!!!! Is this true? Does anyone here know differently?
On page 4 of my 2002 Golf owners manual and it DOES state in the 3rd paragraph down; "This warranty does not cover the replacement of filters, oil, lubricants, fluids or A/C refrigerant charge..." I also called VW of America and was also told this was new for 2002.
While it is not a "big" deal - one of the reasons I purchased the VW was due to the service warranty. I own to Audi's and those have the free maintenance for 4yrs/50Kmi. So did VW discontinue such a great service? I'm disappointed. 8-(

Yes, on the 2002 models the scheduled services are no longer free. However, you should have a longer bumper to bumper warranty.
On my 2001, I have scheduled services covered (4). However, my bumper to bumper is only 2yr/20k.

Eliminate free maintenance for 2/24.
Increase b2b to 4/50.
Seems like a good trade off in my book. All the free maintenances added up to 3-4 oil changes. An extra 2/26 on the b2b warranty could be worth thousands!

You're better off with the 4/50. I've got the 2/24 so I'll get 4 free oil changes worth about $120 at the local lube. I also get to drive 45 miles to the dealer and then 45 miles home. If they take my car as soon as I get there I get to spend 3-4 hours getting my free oil change.

Exactly. I have the '01. But I would have been happier with an extended warranty.

Yes, it went down from 10/100 to 5/60.
