VW Golf GTI 1987(first post update)

My name is Ken, I bought my first mk2 in 2009, at the time I was 19. This is the story of how a car became a hobby, a hobby became a passion and the passion became pure uncut love for the mk2. I currently own 2 mk2's, I bought my second one in 2013.

This topic is about my first car;
originally an Austrian golf gti however it moved to belgium via the netherlands.
1987 golf mk2 gti 8valve

I bought it in March 2009.

It looked OK from a distance, but it had (and still has) a lot of rust.

Then 2 months later, this happend:

So it got stripped:

To respray it

all done?

Re: VW Golf GTI 1987 restoration project (Ice_ken)

Hard to tell in the "after" photos except for the last one, but it looks like a great job was done
on the restoration. Great looking car!

Re: VW Golf GTI 1987 restoration project (Ice_ken)

hello again everyone,
nothing big has changed in the past months, I monstly do some maintnance on it

-completing the interieur(small things such as plastic caps to cover bolts and stuf)
-changed the oil filter, oil, sparkplugs, airfilter
- fixed some electrics (dashlights, indicator, ignitionwiring)
and so many other small things... I'm currently adding some VDO gauges...

The perfect little toy... a true original small window/bumper GTI with I hope the mechanical injection 8v motor.
I used to have one like this. I loved it so much. The throttle response is amazing in these.

thanx everyone, really means alot to me that people appreciate the work!
@ trannycracker: It is indeed the mechanical K-jetronic 8v motor, in full original condition.
@Vdub2625: Though the last pictures are my best so far, I'm really getting the hang of it!
I still have some work left though.
@Vdubadmirere1: Will do!

Re: (demonmk2)

In the beginning of the month november I did a big service on my engine, since then she's runnig a lot better. I had to fit a new alternator since the old one had died on me:

I replaced the non-original alternator with a bosch 90A alternator OEM VW/AUDI. It got up to 13.9volts now, the regulator limits it to 14V. Tyres need to be replcaced as well, I almost ended up in the ditch twice.
