vw jetta mid engine kit car - mk4

Mark smith here...I am the owner of factory five racing and figured it was time to share my latest project and company Smyth Performance with the main stream vw crowd on this forum. Over on www.tdiclub.com in the tdi conversions section, we have been finishing up a concept mid engine kit car based on the vw golf/jetta mark4.

What I started as a discussion on www.ffcobra.com (thread is called "mark smith, time to talk") which is an independent discussion forum that mainly talks about factory five racing products and builds, has evolved into a new company that will be manufacturing this kit. Soooo...I am done positioning the tdi powerplant in a mid engine layout and am doing the 1.8T/vr6 powered version next week...here is where we need the help. I need to make sure that the aftermarket turbo kits fit in the new position. What kits are you using and how do you like them?
If forum members with experience and interest with the various kits could let us know their likes and dislikes...especially of the cheaper 800 dollar kits on ebay..I will buy one and engineer the room for it in the car.
Project can be followed on http://www.ffcobra.com http://www.tdiclub.com or http://smythperformance.blogspot.com/
Let me know what you think and thanks ahead of time.

How about links to the actual threads?
Oh, and this is likely going to get locked, as it could be seen as advertising from a non-forum sponsor. But I hope it does not.

Hi Mark,
Each VW engine has its own technical subforum on vwvortex. The main heading where you can find them is http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeromain?id=3
Within those specific forums you'll find a lot more information on aftermarket turbo kits than you will here in TCL, where it's more of a general automotive interest forum.
Good luck with your project, I really want a '33 Coupe!

My wife is in hysterics at the "THE mark smith line" thanks for that...

glad I could be the cause of you getting some action later

in regards to your question about Forced Induction in the vr6, are you using a 12v vr6 (91-2002 corrado, mk3, early mk4) or a 24v vr6 (03-.... TT, late mk4)?

word of advice. Be sure to clearly state who you are and you know nothing of VWs. Vwvortex is notorious for telling people to go search and being generally annoying
I know for a fact the 12v vr6 is pretty robust. you can easily run 10-12 psi on a stock longblock and not worry about blowing anything up. Trannies can hold around 400whp no problem too as well as the clutch but uprating the parts is not a bad idea. Also advise to do the timing chains and guides
Cheers
