VW owning days are numbered.

Hey guys.
Hesitation in my car is now at the final straw.
When it's cold it doesn't idle, once it warms up it goes away and runs fine, maybe a skip here or there when cruising. Problem is getting to the point where it's warmed up enough. (Just now I killed the battery trying to get it going.)
Mechanics can't find anything, it seems to not happen when in their possession,
and to me that's just bad luck.
Brand new cap, rotor, plugs, fuel filter,
and fuel pump in cell, and plug wires are not old.
Should I give to dealer to look?
Otherwise, someones gonna get a clean looking Jetta (w/ brand new clutch, lightened flywheel, TT cat and exhaust, RPI springs and many new parts, with NO RUST anywhere on the car) with almost perfect interior because I can't deal with it anymore.
Even though the thought of having to get rid of her is killing me.
Thanks for listening to me vent. I shall fall asleep frowning, because I hate the thought of what I'm going to have to drive instead.
Goodnight guys.

Have your cold start system checked. Mine didn't work and I would have to jump the car to get it going when it was cold.
Re: VW owning days are numbered. (Red2)

Change you blue coolant temp sensor, it's under $10 and there is a very good chance that that's the problem.

yo ryan,
just start taking the T5R

(j/k)
listen, i gotta pick up oil, so if u want the sensor, lemme know!!

I think this made a difference on my car: Make sure the seal that goes between the in tank fuel pump/ sending unit assembly and the tank is installed correctly.
Re: VW owning days are numbered. (Red2)

part that poop out man... do something...
im getting fed up with mine a little too (then again maybe its just being a college kid and having NO money)
Re: VW owning days are numbered. (Red2)

man this sounds just like the problem my GTI is having...its in the shop now, if I get it back and its fixed, I'll let you know
or if you get it worked out, let me know too http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

what exactly is the function of the blue temp sensor
Re: VW owning days are numbered. (16vnotchback)

It's the blue temp sensor... It senses the temps of the blue.

it gauges how much coolant goes into the engine at a time? i dont exactly remember. but i am having almost the same problem. except mine usually starts pretty good. but it idles at 400 sounding like BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM. like pretontation or something. then it hesitates like nutsballs. until i rev it to 3k it gets in gear and revs down and bogs hard. then it gets fine and it warms up runs like a champ EXCEPT for a slight idle problem.
Re: VW owning days are numbered. (eastcoastdubs)

cold start vale. the cold start acts as a 5th injector, it pours tons of gas into the motor when its cold , until it warms up. some one correct me if im wrong.
Re: VW owning days are numbered. (88gti16vracer)

You need to recalibrate the entire fuel system. It tells you how to do this in the Bentley manual. All you should need is a fuel pressure meter for a Bosch system, a 3mm allen wrench, and any part then the test tells you is worn out. It is all in the Manual.
Re: VW owning days are numbered. (CARVER)

Well, I'm checking the coolant temp sensor today since
16Vnotchback has one lying around. I have a strong feeling that it's
probably not the problem.
She starts up beautiful but won't idle
past a minute or two.
When you step on the gas it barely responds
or doesn't at all and stalls. I've had this problem before, it's haunting me.
The dist. is from another car, maybe that's it, the reason we changed it last time was for the same problem.
Re: VW owning days are numbered. (Red2)

Check your injector o-rings. I changed mine out, and it made a world of difference! It didn't fix it totally, but enough to where it's drivable again. It made me feel good enought to take chicks out in it again

Idle Stabilizer Valve?
Re: VW owning days are numbered. (OregonNatureBoy)

"It made me feel good enought to take chicks out in it again"
yeah, I know that that's important!!
check this out, it was warmer today so she started up and stalled a couple of times. But she warmed up pretty quick, and like i said before, ran fine. Even more than fine, she runs beautifully. No hesistation, idle is perfect, and she goes like ... she should. (I was going to say "like a rocket" but who am i kidding)
When she's running it's almost ridiculous to think that i should get rid of her for such a stupid, annoying, intermittent, spiteful, pain in the butt, cursed, shows up at the worst possible times, then doesn't show at all inconvinience.
temp sensor works, cold start valve can't be the problem because in 20 degree weather she starts up fine, just stalls two minutes later.
maybe a fuel leak somewhere or dare i say a vacuum leak.
Checking hoses and wires now.
AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

SO did they sort yours out?
It's been warmer the past few days so the problem has dissappeared.
Maybe airflow meter has to be adjusted?
Anyway, my brother and I couldn't really find anything except a few badly corroded wires, which could be suspect, so we installed a set of recaros from an 89 gti. That'll fix the problem.
I could almost stall out on the side of the road and still be happy with those things in.
i'll let you know if anything comes up

Re: VW owning days are numbered. (Red2)

so did you check the ISV or what?
Re: VW owning days are numbered. (DrMSH)

Nah, she idles fine now.
We adjusted the AFM and fixed a broken hose clamp going into the fuel pump assembly, it's been three days and no sign of the problem.
I'm saying that with crossed fingers!!
