hello all,
i plan on buying some rubber floor mats whenever my wagon gets here and just want some opinions as to which mats people use. quality is a side issue, my main
concerns are fit, ease of installation and appearance. i am also intrested in how many people use a contrasting color mat as compared to the interior of the car. i will have a black interior but it seems that a grey floor mat would give some contrast that would look nice and at he same time not show every spec of dust or grass that would show on a black surface.
any opinions are welcome, thanks

Re: vw rubber mats or weathertechs ? (javi-rgv)

Volkswagen produces Cars...Not Floormats
I have been
using WeatherTechs for years and would never buy anything else...ever.

I have the weathertechs. I love the trunk liner, but I keep hearing about how they wear out so easily. So, I bought some cheap $8.00 mats at an autoparts and keep the drivers side covered with the cheaper mat. They are just as good, if not better.

I have the Beige interior with the Monster mat's (black)... and it looks very nice.
The Monster mats are the best rubber mats made... anywhere... period. They are very heavy, and deep. They fit perfectly, the stock snaps have a vice like grip on the posts... even without them they wouldn't move just from the weight.
You have to trim Weathertechs, they are thin, and they will wear out. If you are going that route save your $ and get hte cheapo's. I think there's still a 20% on-line sale at http://www.drewparts.com. When you check out type in clubB5. The Monsters are reasonable. They are out at the moment, but since you don't have your car yet, it's no biggy, and you save 20%...

I have the black VW Premium Rubber mats in a black interior, and they are great. PERFECT fit. They are secured to the floor using the standard posts that come on the car. Personally, I don't like the big thick ridges that you get with the monster or weathertech mats, so the premium mats were perfect for me. I'll leave them in year round.
I have been trying to get pics of my car posted, but access to my personal homepage is all messed up with the AT&T takeover of Mediaone. However, I do have a picture of the mat installed if you want me to e-mail it to you. Just let me know.

I can't resist posting pix of my beige interior w/ black VW premium mats:

One issue w/ using contrasting color mats is the color of the posts. I've decided to leave my beige posts, though they look like little dots in the black rubber matting. The rear mats come with their own black screw-in posts. Front' mats didn't come with anything to replace the front posts, I guess since they aren't screw-in.

I tried the weathertech mats, but the passenger side one fits really badly (as they come). I guess it could be trimmed, but youd be trimming off the edge of the mat that is supposed to trap the water in.
VW premium rubber mats for me.

DCDave,
The black premium mats look very nice with the beige interior. I have the black premiums with my grey interior and it looks really sharp too. The contrast just looks awesome.

I actually wasn't sure if I'd be keeping them in year-round, but my wife persuaded me into it. It really does look nice. Especially considering how fast the OEM mats wear out.

thanks for all the great input but i would like to see a pic of a black interior with grey floormats. or i could just go by the dealer and ask to see what the combo would look like with whatever cars are available.
thanks again

Don't have black with grey, but I do have black w/ black. With the VW Premium Rubber, they only come in black as far as I know. Personally, I would go black with black. I think the black look good with grey and beige too, but I think grey would look out of place with the black interior. Just my opinion.

I just got a set of VW Monster Mats from Drewparts (after a couple months of waiting), and they're great! Extremely solid, heavy, with tall ridges. Plus the "PASSAT" writing is a nice touch. Definitely a keeper.
