I just got call from dealer (Congressional VW -Rockville, MD) and they told me that my CEL was caused by bad MAF (DTC - P1128). They replaced it for free, but I called VWoA and told them that I was taking car to the dealer. I have 99.5 Golf with 40,000 miles and no warranty. It looks like silent recall to me.

Is this because there is an emissions warranty on the car, and the MAF is part of that??? I am grasping at straws, thats cool they paid though!

MAF is Mass Air Flow Sensor. The DTC is P1128 - something like engine running lean !? I think it was not covered by emissions warranty ... I asked VWoA once before about that.

We had the same thing happen to us. Only not as many miles on our car. we were slightly past our warranty miliage. Our dealer replaced the part no charge as well.
