There's some controversy about the GLX jetta 24v v6 being automatic ONLY! and the GLI being available in 6-speed but w/ less luxury than GLX.

Yap. GLX coming out soon = 201hp V6 with Auto and Luxo Features
GLI in (March?) = 201 hp V6 with Manual but less Luxo
It's really irritating that they don't even give you manual option for the GLX at all, not even with the 174 hp engine. So basically if you are a stick driver, you cannot get the luxury features of the GLX.

You would think that VW dealer would know more about the product they are selling than the general public. (ROFLMAO!) The GLI will be available in early 2002. Well, VWVortex is NOT the general public when it comes to VWs.
New for 2002 will be the Jetta GLI VR6 (201 HP) with only a 6 speed manual transmission available.
This new model will come standard with Sport Suspension, and 17" alloys and tires and the Sport interior as seen in the Jetta GLX/Wolfsburg Limited Editions.
It will be available only in UniBlack, Reflex Silver Metallic, Blue Lagoon Metallic and Tornado Red.
Interior choices will be Black, Gray and Beige in Leather and Cloth.
They will be color dependent.

If you want a GLX go get one. I got one of the last 5 speed Galactic Blue with beige leather. As of 5 pm yesterday there were 3 left in the port in Boston and I don't think that they are making any more!

Yeah that's why I bought mine yesterday. I wanted all the luxury features in stick. Plus I am coming from a 2.slow (which was a nice car) so the VR6 should be plenty of power and with a cold air intake and a better exhaust, the car should breath quite nicely to about 190 hp (at flywheel and I have nothing to back this up so if I am wrong let me know!).GLI in (March?) = 201 hp V6 with Manual but less Luxo

It's all in marketing. Most luxury-oriented drivers want the luxury of having an automatic. Supply vs. Demand...GLI in (March?) = 201 hp V6 with Manual but less Luxo
