Hello
i'm new to the VW scene guys. i was looking to buy used 2001 GTI which had 80000km on the odometer. is it too much or what?? what's the life of 1.8T engine?
i heard VW's are more expensive than most of their rivals which would lead potential buyers to think that they're more reliable and capable of offering better quality. people said this kind of attitude is typical of the German marketing approach. is this true??

Re: VW's engine life question. (bootyslap)

Ultimate engine lifetime is dependent on the previous owner's maintenance habits. The 2001 VW maintenance schedule for US/Canada is:
8000km oil change
every 16000km maintenance including oil change and other things (every other one is a bigger one)
every 8000km oil change (1.8L and 2.8L V6 (not VR6) engines only)
every two years brake fluid change
Oil is preferably 5W-40, which is typically only available in "synthetic".

Re: VW's engine life question. (bootyslap)

This is the subject of debate as the 1.8T has not been out for many years as the 2.0 has. I will say that if history teaches us anything, it will be kicking for many, many miles if properly serviced.
Let the opinions fly................................
