I was looking in the paper for used cars and came across a 1984 300SD for $2500. From what I've read and heard they are very durable cars (200-300k miles is common) but I'm guessing that reliability and repair cost is an issue like with most mercedes cars?
Also the price seems a little too low even for a car from 84, what's the usual price for these?
If it's actually a reliable car then it might be a good alternative to early 90s japanese cars that are also in my price range.
I'm sure the gas mileage is half decent too, at least better than the gas models with the big V8s.

Absolutely bulletproof drivetrain, but bodies rust.

I started this W126 thread a few days ago:

What else can I tell you? Not much... but the Diesel Mercedes last forever.
The 300SD had a turbo'ed inline 5 diesel. The 300D was non turbo. Considering how much more air diesels need compared to gassers, I'd go with the turbo if you can find one.
