Good luck. BTW this can be done on any sunroof knob.

I used a $4 LED from Radio Shack and it worked great. I also used the directions from that link. If you read through the 500 pages of the original post created by jwil, I have some posts stating that the ones in the pictures look different then my Jetta and I found out the pics were from a GTI. Not sure if they differ but I helped a few with my findings...they are in that thread as well. Also, Just an FYI...
When you open the knob and get it apart, STEP 7 on that page, be careful not to loose the 2 small bearing and 2 small springs that go flying in all directions! Trust me
I have had it apart 4 times but not since I got it working.
1st - time I forgot to add the resistor for the LED and turning it on and fried it.
2nd - the LED came un-glued
3rd - Do not ask!

4th - I had the dial/contacts points backwards and my sunroof was opening in reverse.
I thik it was build up of frustration, but it payed off after friends get in and see that little blue added light http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Goodluck

Take it apart carefully and pay attention. I read everyones "Watch for this.....Be careful.......". I'm glad I did. Took my sweet time and everything worked the first time. Prety cool mod. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
