Want to replace 02 Double Din Monsoon with?? suggestions? what fits?

I have a new 02 Jetta that I just picked up and I want to replace the stock double din radio. The CDs sound good, but the radio sounds muffled and no highs at high and I have the Monsoon system. I also would like some sort of Aux Input so I can hook up my IPod MP3 player to it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i saw that thing at the dealer... its ugly.... maybe if the treb/bass/fad/bal nobs at the bottom didnt stick out like that...

Along the same lines, I wanted to replace the double din with the old style single din radio/cassette, so that I could use my VW in dash 6CD changer (which will only work with the single din. The service folks at the dealer are telling me it would be a big problem, expensive rewiring and harnesses and such. Anyone know any different or ever done this? I'm so disappointed that I don't get to use my fancy in dash CD changer that I got from the PG group buy.

I guess I'll just deal with what I've got for now...

Yeah, my dealer admitted that the double DIN Monsoon does not sound as good as the previous single DIN model...but wouldn't that have to do with the amp? Does the 02 use a different amp?

Well can't you just put in the console parts from a single DIN (pre-2002) Jetta and install any Euro-Din HU you want? That sounds like an easy option. With that you would have the stock (pre 2002) shelf/hole/cubby. There you can place your I-Pod and have an aux line running up from the HU through the back of the cubby.
Whoever said the amp is the only source of the bad sound quality is off. The amp CAN be a factor, but if any amp is getting a poor signal from the HU it won't sound good.

Ha!

Yeah one of the five...here's one pic I have when I bought it new back in Jan. I don't have any mods yet, just an S2000 antenna, 8" Bazooka and a red "T" badge
